t has been one heck of a first year as Vice-President of Unifor Local 5555. I have been fortunate in my position to participate in two rounds of negotiations for Units 1 and 5 this past year. I have had the privilege to participate in bargaining throughout my career and as the Vice-President, I am now engaged in negotiations for all of the Units of our local. It is an exciting and challenging process that I sincerely enjoy.
Throughout the year, the Vice-President is responsible for communications (emails, social media, website), Unit meetings, triaging or responding to general inquiry emails and phone calls, as well as supporting the President’s office. This past year, we visited most of our off-campus locations with the exception of a few, which we have prioritized to visit in 2026, starting with One James North in January.
For 2026, my priorities will be to improve membership engagement with the Local through targeted communication. Don’t worry, I don’t intend on sending a lot more emails (maybe a few more). What I plan to do in the coming year is to expand on the platforms that we use for communicating with our members. We have a YouTube channel, social media platforms, and a website where we will post more about what we are up to and how you can engage with your Union.
I am wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season! See you in the New Year.
