Day of Mourning

Posted in Unifor 5555

As we are all adjusting to the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to our lives, the Day of Mourning this year seems especially poignant.  Normally on this day we pause to remember those who lost their lives at work, but for some there is no ability to pause today.  Our front line health care workers and PSWs are working in unprecedented conditions to keep you, your elders and your family healthy and safe in an environment that puts them at greater risk than ever before.  Our often undervalued workers in the service industry are seeing everything about their work day change as they continue to make sure that you are able to get the necessities like food and household items.  Transit workers, as well as a vast array of community serving roles are out in the world getting you to where you need to be, or to the resources you need to keep yourself well.  For many of us who are lucky enough to be able to do so, this message will be seen from the relative comfort and safety of our own homes while we work remotely, so we want to remind our members to take a moment to think about those who have, or will, be impacted not just by this pandemic, but any kind of workplace injury or fatality.

In Solidarity,
