COVID-19 Update March 30th

Posted in Unifor 5555

Members,

We trust that you and your families are staying safe in this ever-changing environment we find ourselves in.  Your leadership is working to ensure your rights are protected and that if you are reporting to work you are safe.

The government, both Provincial and Federal, have been making daily updates and through these updates announcing changes to legislation intended to assist and support workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our National Union has worked through the many changes and provided the attached document that identifies the key changes, notably to EI, as well as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit Act that was recently introduced.  This document is a broad overview that will help navigate through the various changes.

Some of the newly introduced financial supports are in the process of being rolled out and we could see some changes in how these supports will be implemented.  It is important to note that the COVID-19 situation is changing daily and this has a ripple effect as everyone works through implementation, determining if these changes are sufficient to get through this pandemic.  There could be further changes to Provincial or Federal financial supports or further changes to Labour codes.  Unifor National’s COVID-19 page is kept current with the most up to date information.  As we get updated information from the National, we will share this with you.

If you have any questions or are dealing with a situation relating to COVID-19 you are encouraged to reach out to your Unit Chairperson for assistance.
